While education is a priority in all parts of the world,
One Here...One There believes the greatest
need per capita, as well as the greatest benefit for
limited dollars, can be found in sub-Saharan Africa.
Sub-Saharan Africa is the world's poorest region.
Sub-Saharan African countries make up the bottom 25
countries on the United Nations Development Program’s
Human Development Index which measures achievements
in terms of life expectancy, educational attainment,
and adjusted real income.
Every year, foreign governments pour millions of needed
monies into the continent to address political, economic
and health care problems, but this relief is only temporary.
The fundamental long-term solution to break this cycle
of poverty is education.
Today 42 million school-aged children in sub-Saharan
Africa are not enrolled in school1. Educating
just a few children in one school will make a difference
to the long term health and well-being of one local
community. When tens of thousands of African youth are
educated, stability in Africa will be a closer reality.
