WHY
No single organization is geared to make a bigger worldwide impact per dollar than One Here One There. By supporting education for the children of sub-Saharan Africa, we're providing a long-term solution for the needs of the world's most desperate region.
- Sub-Saharan Africa contains the 25 most underprivileged countries in the world in terms of life expectancy, educational attainment, and adjusted real income.
- Nearly 25 million adults in this region are infected with HIV or the AIDS virus.
- Over 40 million school-aged children in this region are not enrolled in school.
HOW
- American college students are empowered to raise funds for the organization through traditional fundraising events, promotion of direct online donations, and tuition add-ons.
- Our all-volunteer team on the ground in the US tallies all funds generated and supplies them in full to those in need in Africa.
- Board member Michael Matthews, with 15 years of African development experience, coordinates with non-government organizations on the ground in Africa to apply funds directly to schools, families and education-based needs.
WHAT
Since 2006, One Here One There has raised funds to support education in sub-Saharan Africa, allowing the organization to support a wide variety of education-related needs.
- Funds have been used to free families from the necessity of forcing children - particularly young girls - to work for family income rather than attend school.
- At rates as low as $20 per student per year, funds have been used to pay tuition and buy books.
- For as little as $10,000, entire schools have been built where none had previously existed.
